Dan Brown, author of the 2003 bestseller - The Da Vinci Code has been taken to court for plagiarism !! The accusation has come from the authors of the 1982 nonfiction book "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail (HBHG)".
Brown published his book in 2003 and its after almost 3 years that these authors decide to take him to court ?
Some commentators in the media say that "Sir Leigh Teabing", a character in Brown's book has a name thats an anagram of Richard "Leigh" & Michael "Baigent" (authors of The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail - HBHG)
Brown is accused of using this non-fiction book, HBHG, in devising his fictional plot of conspiracy and murder in the Catholic church in The Da Vinci Code
A lawyer for the authors of HBHG say that Brown "took short cuts rather than doing any of the work himself."
On the other hand, the lawyer for Brown's novels' publishers claim that the ideas about the life and legacy of Jesus Christ are so general that they are not protected by copyright.
The book has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide and earned Brown £45 million ($106 million) in one year, making him one of the world's richest writers !!!
A major
Hollywood adaptation is due for release in May this year and if Baigent and Leigh succeed in securing an injunction to bar the use of their material, they could hold up the May 19 release, starring Tom Hanks
Lets wait and watch the trial. I believe its not amongst the best claims that authors of HBHG are trying to make. As for me, I've read Brown's book couple of times and it should only be read as a "Fiction" not as real facts (believed by some speakers on TV y'day). CNN,BBC,NBC, FOX NEWS all carried news about this development and whatever the end-result be, it has once again generated interest in a common man.
The best part is -- The case is scheduled to last up to three weeks, Brown may take the witness stand some time next week. The hearings have been adjourned until next Tuesday to allow the judge time to read the books and other related material. Fundoo !!

Heard of Google.org ? Not yet ? Well, Its the so called "philanthropic arm" of google, and includes work of the Google foundation and uses some of Google's own projects using Google talent, technology and other resources. The Google foundation has made some initial commitments, one of them which I found interesting is -
Planet Read - Its an organization seeking to improve literacy in
India using same-language subtitling. By adding subtitles to
Bollywood films and
videos of popular folk songs, PlanetRead gives people who have low literacy skills regular reading practice. As it expands, this approach has the potential to reach hundreds of millions of people.
Now a days more than 200 million people in India are getting weekly-reading practise from Same Language Subtitling (SLS) using TV !! The cost involved ?? Every U.S. dollar covers regular reading for 10,000 people – for a year. The founder of PlanetRead is Dr. Brij Kothari and his views could be read
here in detail.
Its a superb idea and is bound to succeed hands down. The song from 'Chalte Chalte' has been depicted on superb karaoke here (under Film Songs). Programs in Hindi, Tamizh, Bengali, Kannada and Telugu have started showing programs with SLS, mostly DD (Doordarshan) channels.

This era, where
Blogging has become a revolution (well almost), it always helps to understand a few basics about

Work Ethics
Saturday, February 25, 2006
Its official now- I have been indited to the elite club. The club of Saturday Sabbatarians. It came to me as a surprise yesteday (and that too @ 4pm) when I was asked to report to work. I was like - no kidding ? Going live over the week-end has its disadvantages !!
Am a member of the group where Veterans like "Habitat Workers", "Doctors", "NGOs", "Sportsperson" etc have been ruling the world. Who works on a Saturday you may ask. Mulder does, and dragging poor Scully into his troubles and going into a panic mode.
On the other hand, I'd be able to wear Jeans to work (voila) - oh sounds like a motivation yeah? A change from the regular formal dressing, although I donot understand the link between work and formal wear (not that one exists) .. work ethics !!!
Although I do fear, and don't have an option not to. Exodus, Chapter 31, verse 15 states " .... but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death." God reiterates the importance and says that noone should work on a Saturday (Sabbath)

I dont know who did but I know someone would - in the near future; also have seen it being moved right in front of my eyes. I did what most of us do, turn a blind eye towards it. Reading this book today realized how stupid of me to do that. Must say that never in my life have I felt like a tormented, hollow mockery of a human being.
This one by Johnson Spencer & Kenneth H. Blanchard titled "Who Moved My Cheese" is a real eye opener. It would put a question right on your face and that being "Are you ready to accept any change in Life or are you afraid of changes ?"
The Author tries to keep it as simple as possible (couldn't be more simpler) and can be applied to every aspect of your personal life and/or career/professional life.
A Must Read.

It ought to be for giggles, I thought. No it was not; I was eager to get it done with today. The 250 GB Seagate hard-drive has been sitting there for 4 months now. Lazy me, thought of using it many-a-times but it was not until today that I actually disected my PC. Took a while to clean it up and boy was glad that got it done. My HP now boasts of 280 Gigs of storage space.
Thanks to Sean, used up a bit of space with his mp3s collection. bit? ..... lol it seems so less; its freaking 35 GB. Yeah 35 gigs worth of music !!! I dont think I'd need any more stuff in the near future. He had it all starting from Air Supply to Beatles to Green Day to Billy Joel to Led Zep to Pearl Jam to Floyd to U2 to Whitesnake. Also deep in those folders lie Celine Dion, Britney, Alicia Keys, Beyonce and likes ... Geez. I've put them in a separate folder and I dare not play them.
Am not sure how many of them would I be transferring to my Ipod, as my existing collection is pretty okay types. Probably would spend this week-end sorting out Sean's stuff. Am sure 2 days wont be enuf.

Lazy monday today, woke up pretty late dont know whether it was my laziness or the body resisting me from getting outta the bed thanks to the looong walk yesterday. Went to a Thai restaurant for lunch, food was good and so was the Papaya salad *something new*.
On the way back stopped by at a store and rented the movie Bluffmaster. Pretty okay film, bit of a liftoff from Truman Show though. Song of the day - "Aap Ki Kashish" from the Hindi movie Aashiq Banaya Aapne.
Aapki kashish sarfarosh hai
aapka nasha yu madhosh hai
kya kahe tumse jaane ja
gum hua Hosh Hai...
*ing Tanushree Dutta - Miss India 2004. Havent seen the movie (no plans of watching it either), the song is a cool one though. I guess its enuf Bollywood movies for the month!

You know you are crazy (or nearing that stage) when ...
Every long week-end becomes a freak accident at the Mall.
Serendipitous discoveries occur and it doesn't surprize you even after realizing thefact that you've almost emptied your wallet to fill up the polythene/paper bags with Designer wear emblems on it.
You drive > 200 miles one way to get to a Premium Outlet and all along make a vain effort to comfort your heart that you did it for the fun of a much needed long drive.
The $$ you end up spending is more than the miles you've travelled, where miles >= 200.
You torture your body by walking about 4-5 miles in the cold, freezing yourselves in 4-5 deg F.
Such long week-ends slowly transform yourselves into a creature feeding on UK brands while you eat n live in US.
You feel the pinch of a sudden shortage of hangers in your wardrobe whilst you had enuf to spare the Friday before the Long week-end.
You close your eyes, try to get some sleep, and start hallucinating the Benetton Ad and/or a two-digit number followed by a % sign , preceded by the word SALE.
Crap about all this on your Blog as a proof of the aforementioned craziness.

80s and 90s are considered the decades of Sitcoms. Now, there are quite a few out there on TV now-a-days but here are a few that I watch/used to watch. Am sure you too would have enjoyed watching them, laughing at the characters and their superb timing.
70s Show - Fez and Kelso are funny !! The way the teens try to deal with life as a whole, and slip past Red's constant 'Dumbasses', is sure to make you laugh.
Becker - or Dr Becker; Linda -Becker's assistant dumb as a doorknob but always loveable Margaret is the black secretary for Becker, and BOB.
Dharma & Greg - Dharma is famous for the plethora of silly humor. The humour is appealing indeed ;) .
Mad about You - Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser have the best chemistry and they, as a couple, are adorable, touching and utterly hilarious in everything they do.
Married with Children - Christina Applegate stars in this sitcom. The Bundy family were excellent and brilliantly complemented the characteristics of Al Bundy.
Friends - Well it is not definitely my fav show. I'd prefer Seinfeld anytime !! Although started watching friends and it is pretty fun. Joey is a character and probably 'the character' amongst them all. But in the end its like how a sitcom should be - Funny !
Everybody Loves Raymond - Ray, Robert and Frank with his Holy Crap keep it alive.
Seinfeld - Jerry and his friends are amazing. Kramer is funny as hell and I simbly love to watch his character unfold ;). George shouts triumphantly after winning an argument that "there is no bigger loser than me!". Kramer driving a fire truck, playing golf .. baking himself on the roof after applying butter on himself .. OMG !!
Simpsons - not out since 1989. I watch Seinfeld and simpsons back to back 2 times a day :). The star out here are Bart and Homer. I luv the scenes where Homer uses his brains, his crazy ideas and when he grabs Bart by his neck !! lol
Southpark - Four boys. One f**ked up town. Although it depicts politics, the media, today's youth, celebrities, violence in our society, and much much more in an odd fashion. Stan and Eric are stars here.
Will & Grace - Just Jack/Jack in the Box ...Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally are the real stars as Jack and Karen in this sitcom which I luv; have quite a few seasons but have lost touch of them and dont' watch that much - now.

Squeezed myself to the RDB club today. Last day last show @ the Somerville theater and we decided its enuf procrastination. Would have regreted and wouldn't have gotten another chance to watch it on the wide-screen !
Hmm ... fabulous movie it is and after a long time enjoyed the whole 2 hr 45 min, probably the first time after "The Legend Of Bhagat Singh" (the Ajay Devgan one). 10 bucks worth spent !! The story and direction is pretty cool. Dilli has been portrayed as the very best (which it is) and the scenic beauties are amazing. Songs - pretty cool, though had already listened to them on Raaga. Acting - good performances, of course Hindi slang (collegiate dialect) is like "soney pe suhaaga" and reminded me of the Undergrad days ... Oye' teri pen' di yeh hindi jaanti hai yaar ....
Climax was a bit ~ ahem ... though conceivable (or no?). On the one hand it shows how life can change before you even know what's happening around you and on the other conveys a message wide and clear - do something to change the current situation, anything that you are capable of !!
Rating ~ *****

Ambigram - Its a graphical representation of a word that has symmetry. Also known as inversion, the figure spells out the word in the represented form and in another direction (read upside down). Illuminati is one of them ; one of the best illustrated and pretty infamous.
They are one of the many secret societies in the world and the literal translation in Latin means "the enlightened ones". A good illustration is presented by Dan Brown in "Angels and Demons"...
Fire , Air , Earth and Water , the four important elements which make up the earth are perfect Ambigrams ...

Was surprised, reading this piece of news titled "Internet freedom gone with Google". Bloggers howled in anger, free speech activists picketed Google's office in Sydney and pro-Tibet websites like
www.noluv4google.com saw traffic mount. Libertarian voices on the Internet are fighting tooth and nail to keep the Internet the way it was meant to be
.... Free ...This outrage was trigerred by Google's decision to launch
www.google.cn - the Chinese version of its Search Engine. In keeping with the demands from the Chinese Govt. , Google's filters block out dissident literature, websites on computer security, anything with gay and lesbian overtones, teenage pregnancy, sites on dating and jokes. Chinese bloggers now call it the "eunuch search engine".
The author of Zheng Weekly, a Chinese dissident blog wrote, "If Google does this, it will be dammed. This company will become the son of Satan completely. It will not only be condemned by global users, but will also be marginalised in China."
In short what does all this BS mean ? It means that country’s Internet users would only be able to look up material approved of by the government and nothing about Tibet or democracy and human rights in China. "US firms are now bending to the same censorship rules as their Chinese competitors but they continue to justify themselves by saying their presence has a long-term benefit. Yet the Internet in China is becoming more and more isolated from the outside world and freedom of expression there is shrinking" - Asia press release

I found myself adding all the songs from "The Doors" to my winamp playlist today, after reaching home. Dont ask me how or why but was surprised myself, I would have expected some Floyd or Led Zep or Tool for that matter. Nevertheless we both had to agree and I got a nod from my upstairs . Jim Morrison eh ? I said to myself. One of the best rock bands at that time, "The Doors" rocked !! Although he succumbed to an unexpected death, the saga of 'I dont know how-many' Rockstars, the 27 year old had achieved a lot in his 6 year stint.
I've made a dossier of a few big shots who succumbed to similar fate :
read as : Name - Band - Age - Date - Cause
John Bonham :: Led Zeppelin :: 32 :: 25/9/80 :: Alcohol overdose
Cliff Burton :: Metallica :: 25 :: 27-9/87 :: Traffic accident
Karen Carpenter :: Carpenters :: 33 :: 02/04/83 :: Anorexia
Steve Clark :: Def Leppard :: 30 :: 01/08/80 :: Alcohol
Kurt Cobain :: Nirvana :: 27 :: 04/05/94 :: Suicide
Jerry Garcia :: Grateful Dead :: 08/09/95 :: Heart attack
Shannon Hoon :: Blind Melon :: 28 :: 10/21/95 :: Drug Overdose
Michael Hutchence :: INXS :: 37 :: 11/22/97 :: Suicide
Brian Jones :: Rolling Stones :: 27 :: 07/03/69 :: Drowned
John Lennon :: Beatles :: 40 :: 12/08/80 :: Murdered
Jonathan Melvoin :: Smashing Pumpkins :: 34 :: 11/07/96 :: Drug overdose

Was in great enthu this week-end. First of all was about to meet a classmate of mine who's here for his Project in Nashua. Didn't meet him since ..what 98 ? Yeah I guess it was 98 . Had some good time on Sat. remembering the good old school days and the KV (Kendriya Vidyalaya) days :-).
Then in the evening was getting ready to hangout at Springfield, vising my roomie's home. It was long due I guess and I have been postponing the visit, but had some nice time. I thought .. Springfield eh ? Does this have anything to do with Simpsons yeah ? Well, tried to find out but then the creators of the series have made a good disguise and the maps donot help much either.
Then, towards the evening/night on Saturday it started snowing like there was no tomorrow. They had predicted a good snowstorm this week-end. But was amazed when I woke up early morning today (12 pm i.e). More than 20 inches socked the area and it still was flaking down pretty heavy. Now I should say - this sounds like NE winter yeah ? Maybe not, cause it hasn't been a rough winter by standards. I heard NY got a HUUUGE chunk too (26 inches or some). Anyways would have tough times reaching work tomorrow !!
But then alas, couldn't find a hint about Simpsons :( Maybe I should have done my homework before I left.

The air was swishing by and it was difficult, so difficult that I could barely walk. Could see people standing there waiting for it to calm down. Considering the fact that it was Friday, it was strange that they did not show an urgency. I started walking towards the pedestrian crossing, looking to my right I could see a couple of cabs at a distance, their headlights indicating that they weren't that far. Waited about 5 seconds before making an attempt to cross.
On the other side, now near the Trinity Church, I stared back at the Tower .. looked amazing at night ( wait it was only 6pm !) and then turned my sight, left 90 degrees. There, in the evening sky stood Prudential, as beautiful as ever - in all its glory. The huge sign on top of the tower, which could be visible even from across the Charles River, makes its presence known in the downtown skyline doesn't it ?
Now walking at the Copley square towards my usual T stop, was wondering looking at the kids play skateboard at the fountain - anything unusual ? Naah ... do see them on and off .. covered from head to toe in winter clothes, still showing great gusto to come down there for some practise. How I wish ... iff I could try that one day. But then its not the first time it has occured to me. Everytime I pass through the square, it hits me .... no more playing eh ? Sigh that sux ..
Come to think of if I dont remember the last time I engaged myself in some outdoor sports, was so fun back in school ... Cricket, Volleyball, Football (Soccer) you name it. But then that now feels like a century ago. Took my right hand out of the jacket pocket and slowly hand-combed my hair, couple of deep inhales and off I was again towards the Green line and then the Apt. A week-end awaits, which I know is gonna pass by like a "Fire truck on call" but then seldom do we forget to appreciate Sat & Sun...
Okay lemme wake up ... what the hell was that all about ? I guess I should keep the Brown effect to myself and not let my blogging/writing get affected by that. Guess not. After reading what I've written above, I think Robert Langdon (aka Dan Brown) has gotten into me. HELP !!

Not much time spent now-a-days, just about 1/2 an hour of Sunshine, while exiting the apt and the time till boarding the Bus. Its all done after that .. no sun at all throughout the day. Thanks to the underground Subway ride, the 9-5 job and " the getting dark by 5 process".
Its a strange feeling - living in darkness M-F (well almost), started getting this wierd feeling of being Nocturnal . Would have been a different scene altogether, in some other part of the world. Although it wont be long before it becomes the other way around .. sunsets at 8-9 in the evening and early sunrises - sigh !

Aquarius - the eleventh sign of the zodiac ; its symbol represents part of a stream of water and is the 39th day of the year.
Indeed ... this happens only once a year and is kinda special 'cause you look forward to it. Haven't realised how a whole year flew by, still remember 8th February 2005 like yesterday. Special for me 'cause today happens to be my Birthday ! Yeah an Aquarian, I am.
Had a small celebration, not a big deal though. Thanks - Riten and Milan for the superb Cake !! Probably would go out for dinner tonight and enjoy the day!!

Did happen to watch Superbowl yesterday. Not to watch the game, but was interested in the ads they aired on TV. Got a grip to a few good ones. Some of them that stood out were -
Fedex, Scott Tissue, Hummer, Burger King, Budlight, Godaddy, Budweiser, Emerald Nuts ...
Atleast they were better than the ones that are aired on a regular day :D. You gotta watch the Fedex, Scott Tissue and The Magic Fridge (Bud) ... hillarious

Ten Years: 1980-1990 ... Following up on my previous post " The 1980s ", I thought of punching in a few more lines on the amazing decade. I remember those days, while at school trying to get a hold on them Comics. Some were so Popular that you still remember reading them like yesterday :D
Chacha Choudhary & Sabu, Nagaraj, Phantom, Mandrake, He-Man, Archie, Champak and The Giant Robot to name a few.
I still remember the funny captions they came up with e.g Sabu - The man from Jupiter, a loyal friend of Chacha Chaudhary. "Jab SABU ko ghussa aata hai to Jupiter pe Jwalamukhi phutta hai" Lol ... (when Sabu gets angry there's a volcanic eruption on Jupiter). Nagaraj - The walking Snake Pit, throwing snakes out his palms. Mandrake - the master illusionist. Heman - I'm the Masters of the Universe.

Now this game is fun, real fun ... I mean. I used to play it while back in school, but its been like what 7-8 years since I've dealt with the rocks papers and scissors ?
Momories were freshened when I saw this y'day, a group of schoolchildren boarded the bus and although they called it Ro Sham Bo, I knew its the same after they started going through the motions - a different lingo thats all !
Ro Sham Bo is the same as the old game Rock, Paper, Scissors. Two to four people start with their hands in a fist, standing/sitting in a circle. Then, at the same time, count to three, Ro, Sham, Bo. On three they hold out their hands in a certain way. Either in Rock (a fist), Paper (flat hand) or Scissors (two fingers making the peace sign). Now here's the catch - Rock beats scissors, scissors beat paper, and paper beats rock.
Now kids, they bet on something and the winner grabs the price (we dealt with chocolates or something smilar). But in a much professional version of the game - If all tie, it is a carry over and the looser has to drink the number of times it is a tie. If it is a tie three times it is three drinks. The pace of this game is very fast with a high buzz factor. Once the players are good at the game it goes very quickly.
Try it out Jee !!!

Well yes ... and how can you stop doing that ? Reading books/newspapers on the way to work is a general TP and I've found myself in that club. But strange things happen when you are on the train and all of a sudden u start smiling (a bit of laughter maybe) reading something. From the corner of your eye you could see quite a few pair of eyes staring at you. I mean come on .. sometimes you become so involved that you gotta let the smile out, yeah ?
Happened to me many times today ... Robert Langdon is such a character! About a month ago it was his interaction with Fache and now its his interaction with Kohler. So I was as usual on my way to Park Street in the T (Boston lingo for subway) that I passed a few (quite a few actually) smiles and I could see the lady sitting beside me trying to poke over what I was reading. Sigh ! As if the "desi" stamp was not enuf - this guy's crazy too (am sure she'd been thinking that; How do I know ? You start expecting that while in NE - well almost). Damn them - here's the thing ... most of the times you find the seat adjacent to you vacant. Maan Chicago was so much better...
Although I have a solution, for now lemme keep the smile posted whenever I feel like; and I guess nothing else matters yeah ?

... Makes Jack A Dull Boy
2006 has been pretty hectic (@ work) so far. No kidding ... this week has been horrible; frustrating rather - how even the simple things take ages to complete. Thanks to the IBM folks, no offense but you cannot get a thing done from them with ease can you ? I remember had to wait 3 days to get ADMIN rights on my PC - sigh !! Dont know why have they been involved with our firm in the first place.
Today was nothing new ... 9-5 went so fast that didnt get time to have a proper lunch. Its when my eyes started getting stressed out that I realised - its 6pm. Morning was cool though, the view from 16th floor was awesome - foggy and with mist floating around - it was a good view. Alas ! couldn't stare for long ... suddenly the phone rings and the next thing I know its time to call it a day !!
Need to get some inspiration from Dilbert, I think :)
