I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them fall away and I've done the math enuf to know the danger's of a second guessing.

An Eventful Day

Now u wont believe it what a day this was .... had to cut it into 2 parts ... each part is interesting enuf to make u smirk ..

Part-1

Regular morning except that it was cold (49 F) and windy .. get to my regular 8:30-8:45 train and its rush time.. after seating myself take out the book to read on my way to work ( as I usually do) .. this dude gets the seat beside me and peeps into what I'm upto (reading) .. as the train starts to pull off from the station he smiles and asks me Schrödinger ?

I was dumbstuck and looked straight into his eyes, frankly couldn't believe myself and couldnt believe in what he was saying .. the next 30 minutes we talked a lot ( though he was doin the most of it ) about Quantum mech, Thermo, Schrodinger's cats, Stephen Hawkings, Newton, Bell and what not. Needless to say- he knew what he was talking about ( and so did I .. he he he ...). We exchanged some examples from the books we read and as we were trying to think what the hell is wrong at the Quantum level , its then that other daily commuters started lookin at us and trying to figure out what's goin on ..

He took some papers which he's working on and expressed his interests in Human psychology and his ongoing research .. Its not often that you find someone with whom you could talk about - unpopular topics like this and as we pondered about the tiny particles involved, it was time for me to get down. But I did mentioned that I'm from India and the very next thing he say's its cool .. and u know the usual stuff .. before jumping to the call centers. But this time praising the guys working out there.. he was like - they speak good English I dont know y guys keep complainin about them being unable to comprehend and speak English that well .. for a minute I was pondering about what he had to say and I should say - he was right

Part - 2

Now part 2 - on my way back home. Boarded the train(Red line) but was interrupted by a fellow countryman on the platform. Wanted to know some Indian stores/restaurants in Boston .. I was in a hurry and had to turn around to figure out what/who it was ? I helped him out with a few names and where he could get down to reach the stores.. accompanied me on the train.

Started talking about the winter and I said I've see worse conditions in Chicago .. he said yes I've been in Chicago too .. I graduated from IIT .. I was like WHAT THE HELL .. what's wrong with the world today ? I told him I graduated from the same school and its then that I realised - its a small world

What else could I say? Indeed its a small world and it was an ENENTFUL DAY in this world.

Go Sox Go ...

Red is a totally different color. By that I mean .... there are some cool features about this color ... it is very addictive, attractive bla bla bla..

Then we got objects like .. red light, blood (red), emergency exits and red sox .. eeeeeehhhh.. did I say RED SOX ? There - I spurt it out .. so what if I did; you would have done that if you were in Boston today evenin between 5 -6 ....

I could see Red here, Red there, RED EVERYWHERE ... aaaarrrgghhhh !!!! Sweaters, t-shirts, pullovers, caps, shoes, blouses, frocks .... all were Red today in Boston ... as if that was not enuf I couldn't see the Bus numbers being displayed anymore.... instead it was "GO SOX GO". Half of my co-workers had ticket for the match today and as you would imagine, the office was empty by 4:30. I could see them visiting www.mlb.com more often and looking at the standings and the MAGIC NUMBER

It is preposterous come to think of it .. are we used to see anything of this magnitude back in India while a cricket match was goin on??? ... Were happy to chear the team while at college/school but a propaganda of this scale in a city ??? I haven't seen any banner which says GO India GO in Bombay railway stations or bus stops .... for that matter ...

Why am I talking about red sox (Only) am sure it would be the same situation in Chicago.. the color of the sox would of course be different but I have seen it there too ( on 3 king drive for eg.) So this a pretty common sight out here, you might say.. but then why ?

Is it 'cause its the world championships or is it just a show-off ?? well whatever --- both of em ( Red and White ) do need it .... I know many of u would partly agree with me ( if not completely ) so should I say GO SOX GO !! yes.. Go Sox GO ... no color this time ;-)

Greyhound ...

The journey back was not exciting.. but it was a relief when the Greyhound left NY and did not go through Providence. I mean - its just an extra hour you gotta add up and for no apparent reason whatsoever. I would have been really pissed off to learn that after goin through so much on Sat. I need to sit out there an hour more....

As if getting lost at Port authority wasn't enuf .... the wait fot the Bus was getting on my nerves and then he announced the arrival of Express to Boston .. boy was I happy .... trying to sleep out there wasn't gonna help; the only thing I could do was to listen to my Ipod and 72 songs did I listen to on my way back .. but I still remember listenin to the 2nd one .. Beck - Loser !!!

Monday .. tell me about it.. knew that I gotta get to work at 7.30 yeah for a change and after travelling the whole week-end it sux .. gotta get up at 6.00 atleast .. t'was playin on the back of my mind and u know how it affects ur sleep .. damn !!

Then the hectic Monday - schedule makes you feel scared and leaves you petrified by noon ... i felt like i've been in the office 4 two full days...Boy it's gonna be a looong week what can i do but wait and watch ...

WhiteSox losing the opener against DET- Tigers .... man !! this AL league's getting more n more interesting this time ... Hope sox pull it to the playoffs .... Amen

Achtung baby ..

Yis Sir. She was driving a cool G35 Coupe ..with moon-roof and what not...the point is not the vehicle .. eh ..when you realise that a more costly stuff is sittin there driving it ...

So here I was travellin from Boston to NY - Greyhound .. chillin by listenin to some iPod and as usual on the 95 S .. traffic jam .... so we were in the 3rd lane and this Girl out there on the 4th driving the Coupe was driving as if competing with the bus to get in front but hey you're in a traffic jam girl .. aint no way outta here ... that's not the point ..

I bet I havent seen something (or someone) like this .. lemme describe .. she was wearing a Shirt full sleeves .. folded hands .. with one hand on the wheel ..black hair ( importance detailed later in the mail ) and some cool ornaments to decorate her wrist ?

She had a moon-roof which was not open .. so trying to get a glimpse was next to impossible .. the lanes are designed such a way that while sitting in a BUS you have no chance whatsoever to see the face of the person driving in the next lane ? Is it some sort of conicidence ? Smart that all ..

So here I was trying my best to get a glimpse of this girl.. I dunno y ... just for satisfaction .. meanwhile the song PUSHIT being played on my -POD ... yeah .... I was pushin it .... and I bet the chinese guy sittin beside me would have enuf to write about me ( if he did that ).. ha ha ha ;-)

"But i'd trade it all ... For just a little bit of...Piece of mind. ..I must persuade you another way" .. yeah I was thinking of some way just to get a glimpse ? thats all .. what would I have gained ....nothin .. I know ...

But about the Hair .. yeah since it was colored Black .. I guessed (1st) that she aint a blonde eh? then a Chinese... or maybe an Indian .. And then once you know the traffic clears up .. what does a Greyhound do to compete with the G35? .. nothin .. 'cause aint much it can do ... there she went ... ( m not talkin about the car).. And I sit here thinking .....lemme c if I can recreate the coincidence on my way back ...

IQ - (Intelligence / Idiot) Quotient

I have always shown interest in these tests. Have been involved with solving some of the Mensa , tickle and some of the tough tests out there on the net. Though my score reflects as having an above average IQ, I have always doubted these tests.

The simple reason being, one test can no way guage your intelligence and no way can they derive a score based upon your 45 minute - 1 hour effort. Tomorrow if I take a similar one, I would end up scoring high/less.
So here I was reading "Schrödinger's Kittens and the Search for Reality" by John Gribbin on my way to work today ( which I always do - to and fro) and I'd like to quote what he has to say .. He says ... IQ tests which are supposed to measure something called 'intelligence quotient' of human beings. But it is now generally accepted that what IQ tests measure is the ability of people to do IQ tests.Innate intelligence may be a factor in determining this ability but it is not the only factor.
No wonder the results of IQ measurements only tell us about the ability of people to respond to IQ tests, not their real intelligence. Now I give you a moment to digest this. I too read the stuff again and again to make sure that I'm reading the right stuff, but its a well accepted fact now. So, those tickles do not tickle me any more and even if Einstein comes up ( as he does ) asking me to take it .. I aint gonna buy that crap.
A correlation he draws out there (Gribbin) is that the same way when we measure the momentum of an electron, its not the momentum that we are measuring, its the ability of an electron to respond to momentum tests and for that matter mass or any other physical property. I believe he is right not because He says so but the examples he outlines to prove his point is pretty convincing ... Well Quantum Mechanics for that matter has had profound effect on myself within the past 2-3 months ..
Although I was lucky to learn a bit about stat mech from Dr. Schieber @ IIT, I never understood the facts then and the main idea was to explain the Copenhagen Interpretation which is now not taken seriously because of the whole concept of the collapse of the wave function. Come to think of it, I have no clue as to what they might find out in the coming decades but what ever it may be, it would be interesting to learn whether faster than light travel is actually possible and if so, does it mean backwards in time ? What happens to Einstein's theory of relativity ?
Sigh !!!

Thirivananthapuram to Maldives

I remember I was in 5th Class (or 5th grade - American). Summer vacation ... where'd you like to go ?? I was in Kerala - God's own land .. those days ( yes I did spent about 3 yrs of my childhood there). How does Maldives sound like ? Well it sounds alright .. Dad was working out there and we had decided to go enjoy the vacation in Male' (in short) ..

I remember we having a long discussion, whether to go this year or next?? We did finally. Took off from Tiruvananthapuram 1 hour flight not more than that .. boy!! Flight journey was fun ... 1st time on a flight... though I don't remember much apart from ... landing in Male' - the airport covers a whole Island and there's nothing else out there .... how 'bout that ?

The scenic beauty of the chain of islands neednt' be described out here, I wont be doing justice if I did so; as you gotta see to believe it .. a shot boat-trip through Indian ocean took us to the Main island and then a 15 min drive to the apt .. We had a colony out there... Dad was working with the new Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) being built in Male' ....
Spent some good time out on there the beaches, swimming leasons, the innumerable islands and the party at night .. boy !! I was out there at a wrong age. Those days we didnt have those electronic gadgets back in India .. Tourism had prospered in Male' and it was filled with tourists (as it stands now ) and brought money flowing into the market (Currency - Rufiyaa is stronger than Indian Rupee) ...
Some shopping and visit to the Indian embassy .. all was with the package !! It was fun spending the vacation away from home and on an Island was like a dream come true.. Though the whole capital was so small that you could run through the perimeter in about a couple of hours ..
We did decide to pay another visit the next year and the next .. each time I enjoyed as much as , or should I say more than, the previous visit. Happened to see a few dignitaries - PMs and others the following year and was out there during the Rajiv Gandhi incident 1991. We saw a huge Indian community gathered at the embassy and it was then that I realised we had a small India blooming out there....

Start of a gloomy Week-end ...

Another week-end stares at me right now. There have been times when I used to be happy as a child getting up Friday, on the back of my mind I knew wow 8 more hours and am all set to enjoy Sat and Sun. I guess it's not unusual; You would not find every weekend the same it all depends on the days activity and most importantly your mood.
Coming to the day's activities at about 3 PM I did wish that It'd better be 5 pretty soon, I simply cannot stand it. The weather outside being so horrible it wasn't the best day to be out there. The effects of Opheila coming all the way to Boston, it was pretty dark outside even at noon. Thank god it didnt rain when I started today morning. Though getting drenched in the rain is not unusual for me, and have been times I wonder Y dont I get a schield for myself, the jacket wont be enuf always ....
For coupla days now am All alone in the family of the sun. My Alter ego stares at me and laughs .... L ... he says; but I aint got any complaints. I take life as it comes as there's nothing you can prepare beforehand. I believe it was Maveli whom I saw the other day. Heard that he has paid a visit to this part of the world...
Coming to ONAM it was nothing special out here. Had I been in Chicago, t'would have been a different story altogether. But I remember those days when out there in Ankamaly, we used to celebrate the festival with utmost enthusiasm and pride.
For now I sit back and wonder The poetry that comes from the squaring of between, And the circling is worth it. ..Finding beauty in the dissonance.

Was that Maveli I saw in Boston ?

For me its like any other day. But t'would have been a different story altogether had I been in Kerala, or India for that matter. Yeah! would have got a chance to get involved in the fest and the feast and if you know what I'm talking about then you know what I'm talking about.

Its been like what 4 years .. Sigh !! Time flies, they say; and I say it does dude. Aint no argument that goes against it. It was fun preparing for about... what 7 days .. decorating the front of the house with a stupendous display of flowers to go about in a circular fashion (pookalam) and then getting up early in the morning to pluck the fresh flowers from the fields to get the best design for the day !! I dont believe am not entitled to have all that now. Its 7 oceans away from home (if I go by the old saying) its no surprise that a Boston ONAM would be what something that I would look forward to.
About Maveli yeah I guess I pretty much have his company out here, though I havent seen him inspite of the rain out here in Boston. I thought it might be an ideal environment for him to arrive with his umbrella and I'd have welcomed him with the grace and gratitude that he would have expected out there in "God's Own Land".
Well I guess I've got to contemplate by remembering the enjoyable moments of my childhood spent out there - I am sure its no less than like heaven - growing up in Kerala.
And I miss those days !!

Statutory warnings - a hypothetical threat ?

Right from the childhood days we all are aware of the warnings going around about Cigarettes, Liquors, Movies .... !! But in spite of that we were ready to take the risks involved - to find out what's it about these things that people are cautious about (or atleast pretend to be cautious about) .. What were they keeping us (children) away from !!

Take the case of Cigarettes .. A doctors warning or a statutory warning goes along every pack . But still we have so many guys/gals smoking.. I bet its because of the warning that they are trying it out .... the more you try to keep him/her away ... the more enticing its gonna be.

Then comes .... drinks .. who cares about the warning on each liquor bottle .. a hypothetical threat if one may call it .. A big warning goes before you start drinking .. then we have responsible drinking, not driving after drinking and terms like DUI ...

One wonders is it worth paying attention to them? Its like a Chess game I believe .. the whole game is controlled by hypothetical threats and possibilities that never happen, but which could have happened if you did otherwise.
Yeah.. I mean that's y they keep smoking .... and the smokers know that the warnings are nothing but BS.

Be careful though....the've started changing the warnings .. But hey its okay to include some while you post messages .. 'cause then you know - this post must be read ( in a similar way that we used to try the ones that carry the Statutory warning !!!)

Times have changed...

As I said earlier , its 21st century and we need to rephrase/reformat some of our beliefs, idealogies and sayings .. is really funny (or isnt it) read on :

The usual saying goes "When in Rome do as the Romans do" am telling you ..we need to rephrase that .. too many do s in the saying. Make it simpler it goes "When in Rome .. Do the Romans" ;-)

"Practise makes a man perfect" they say I disagree. I say "Perfect practise makes a man perfect" I hope u dont need a logical explanation for that

"Nothing can travel faster than light" yes !! A wave function can !! And every experiment in Quantum mech has proved it ... so "Faster than light = Backwards in time"

"Dog is a man's best friend" you must be kidding me .. I didnt realise when I was in Chicago "A Dawg can never be a man's best friend"

"Don't let the grass grow on the path of friendship" well well well .. Grass growth aids friendship

But there are some which havent changed and which even you cannot even think of changing .. one of em is

"Women shall forever be right, even when they aren't correct."

Even god is surprised by their behaviour; he would be like - how is this possible?? I didnt intend to do this !! No way

Daily Checkpoint and Meetings ...

Friday's are usually laid-back .. hmm well I guess I could say the same about office hours..guys roaming here and there trying to find an excuse or rather a way to spend an hour atleast talking the ball game in the next cube. "You know I almost caught the ball fouled by player X out there at Fenway park" .. I mean gimme a break .. as if I asked you whether u r a good catcher.
For me it wasn't a day to be idling out; I was trying to get some work done. Had to hop around to the office at Copley attending a meeting for Performance Improvement on the app. and not to forget the daily checkpoint meeting at 3:30 yeah the daily 1 888....
I have heard about this but experienced it real time now. Meetings , meetings and meetings. There are meetings to decide the budget, plan, execute and even meetings on when to conduct the next meeting. They don't call em meetings though. Its called daily checkpoint. All you need is Outlook and any TDH can schedule one. I know a guy at work who goes .." do we need to have a checkpoint for this ?" ; Am sure he has been hired just to schedule these meetings and jot down the moments of the meetings. I mean why on earth can't they sit down and do some productive work ?
And now they are deciding to go to New York for a trip to visit the 3rd party. The first question that was asked was Are the Yankees in Town ?As if their sole purpose of the visit was to watch Yankees play Sox. I know that they are a comeback team and that each and every match now-on would be a thriller ..
Had been to Jilians today and saw Red sox go down to Yanks. 1 down in the 3 match series. One should look at the wild card race. I've never seen a close finish like this and am sure this year even the last match is gonna be decisive. Had some fun bowling ... I think I should play that often.
Sat and Sun are gonna be hectic. Dont be surprised.. you've seen people saying this about week-days, but I have to transfer all the 30 GB stuff into my IPod. Organizing the music is gonna take a lotta time. I aint in a hurry ; though think 2 days would be enuf ..

With Vincent, Jules, Marsellus and Agassi ..

Haven't been feeding the blog with stuff lately. There's no question that I have become lazy. Is this an excuse ? No..
Had gone into a shell right after the long week-end and had to assimilate great courage to get back with the routine robotic life.
Today looking at the clock an umpteenth time I realised its only 11 am and I have to go a long way before I call it a day. A coupla meetings to attend before the clock strikes 5 and much more to be done in the coming days.
Coming to Flushing, what a match it turned out to be; Yeah am talking about the Agassi vs Blake 5 set ordeal. What a comeback by the champion and once again proving that experience matters when playing out there. The women's games were superb too with Maria trying to hang in there and Dementieva beating Davenport , being the highlights.

Got an excellent collection of mp3 from a colleague at work today. Would put em all on my iPod and get going : what say ?? Have been busy the whole evening trying to copy stuff to my HDD. Boy! I think I'd have to buy a 160 or even 300 gig for that matter.
Hold on .. did I see the clock strike 11.00 ? Sorry got to go.. watch Seinfeld and probably complete Pulp Fiction from where I left it y'day .. thinking about Divine Intervention and Bad @#$%^&#$^# ...lolz ...

US Airways flight 62 : Philli-Boston

Now boarding Zone 4, 5 and 6 said the official as he stood at the gate. Plucked out the earphones and got into the Q to get into the flight. While inside the aircraft put my bag on top and seated myself on the window seat (again).

So far so good .. it all started with myself searching for the belt to be put around my waist .. travelling in a 4 wheeler for most of the week-end I started looking for the belt around my shoulders and realized the size of my 4 wheeler this time ... and i said to myself - there u go.. its all started .. I was waiting for it but didnt know how'd it approach me .. the blues and the odd feeling of getting back to Boston and most importantly getting myself back to the office !!

The captain announced that it would be a while before we took off 'cause the landing lights had to be replaced !! OMG .. some wrong ?? Finally at 8.45 we started to try to get to the runway.. once again "Passengers - this is the captain speaking .. we have been informed that its gonna be a while before we tookoff . there are 20-25 flights before ours to take off .....and you may use ur cell phones" ( which of course I did ... but as if that would ease out the frustration..)

Finally we took off and 15 mins later he says. we are flying over NY .. I was like.. thats it ?? .. and in another 30 minutes was out of the airplane.. Damn !! Out there at Logan Airprt each and every step was taken as if I couldnt walk .. I wouldnt have been surprised if they had offered me a stretcher !!

When u start thinking ( which I was doin on my way back ) .. when's the next LONG WEEKEND .. realised that it would be Thanks Giving ? If it's snowing, then could very well be a vacation at home.... this would have been the last long-weekend that I spent out of my apt .... this YEAR ?? Frustrated and with disbelief I walked my way to the apt .. didnt bother to empty my bag and waste time .. Slept and thought ... if and only if the clock would stop sometime @ night so that I could think and realise what's happened since FRIDAY when I happily said TGIF !!!!

OMG !! Is it me?? Then I realised the whole world's behind me !!

1 888 xxx xxxx

It was 3:30 and here I was dialing the usual 800 number from the 4th floor office of mine, for the conference call. Weekend fever was getting onto my nerves I simply wasnt able to sit on my chair : 1 more minute. It was 3:40 and still no sign of the team. Was thinking of hanging up when they joined all of a sudden - I was like .. Hey where were you guys..

So it went on - close to 4 pm and I'd to leave early today right? So pack my stuff from my desk. Before leaving I said C U NEXT TUESDAY .. and he started laughing .. I was like a 'big ?' .. he says you didnt get the joke ( which I did after a while )?

Now you'd expect it to be crowded on the roads.. people trying to reach the airport/train station heading for the long-weekend. But it wasn't so .. 30 minutes and I was at the GATE but the ordeal I had to go through is worth mentioning here..

Beep Beep Beep it sounded and she said - Put all your stuff (metal) in the container .. and I couldnt believe when I still heard that .. and here I was the detector was moved all over me and lo behold.. t'was the cell phone creating problem. And I was like ... it was supposed to be a saviour in difficult times dude !!

Anyways was in Philly in about an hour .. short flight. Was playing with my i-Pod when I got a call.. dude , come out to the pick-up .. Put my bag into the Camry and off we went .. 3 days and plan to have a bash.. got to go now .. would get some time out from tomorrow's busy schedule ;-) and punch in a few lines.

Ever heard of a 3 day Week ?

Now, didnt i tell you that its just gonna be a 3 day week ? Tue, Wed, Thu and here we are ....TGIF ....

So after the initial complaining of Monday blues and all those accusations, its a different Monday altogether. Carrying the blues for about 2 months, he would be a relieved chap.

This one's gonna be a special one eh ? Yeah, I see it coming .. A long week-end for some and a loooooong week-end for others .. with the weather getting better, I believe it would be a good long week-end.

Planning to fly down to Philly. Not that its the first time but .. its been a while. I remember the last time, it was a long drive from here - about 6 hours. Man !! and that too through NJ turnpike and the suburbs of NY meant that traffic is horrible. It was while driving back that we hit the worst. 2 hours @ snails pace gets onto your nerves and believe me, when you see the road ahead of you lined up with >= 4 wheelers it really does.
Following the US open came to know about Sania Mirza playing some good tennis out there. Good that we still have young players to watch out for and be proud of. On the other side of the world India play NZ, though am not looking forward to the match but I guess Bond needs to be tackled this time. Hope Viru could show some of his whatever you may call it.
So welcome september. Coupla weeks and we can await maveli. I hope he comes to this part of the world.
