- Brown published his book in 2003 and its after almost 3 years that these authors decide to take him to court ?
- Some commentators in the media say that "Sir Leigh Teabing", a character in Brown's book has a name thats an anagram of Richard "Leigh" & Michael "Baigent" (authors of The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail - HBHG)
- Brown is accused of using this non-fiction book, HBHG, in devising his fictional plot of conspiracy and murder in the Catholic church in The Da Vinci Code
- A lawyer for the authors of HBHG say that Brown "took short cuts rather than doing any of the work himself."
- On the other hand, the lawyer for Brown's novels' publishers claim that the ideas about the life and legacy of Jesus Christ are so general that they are not protected by copyright.
- The book has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide and earned Brown £45 million ($106 million) in one year, making him one of the world's richest writers !!!
- A major Hollywood adaptation is due for release in May this year and if Baigent and Leigh succeed in securing an injunction to bar the use of their material, they could hold up the May 19 release, starring Tom Hanks
Lets wait and watch the trial. I believe its not amongst the best claims that authors of HBHG are trying to make. As for me, I've read Brown's book couple of times and it should only be read as a "Fiction" not as real facts (believed by some speakers on TV y'day). CNN,BBC,NBC, FOX NEWS all carried news about this development and whatever the end-result be, it has once again generated interest in a common man.
The best part is -- The case is scheduled to last up to three weeks, Brown may take the witness stand some time next week. The hearings have been adjourned until next Tuesday to allow the judge time to read the books and other related material. Fundoo !!
