I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them fall away and I've done the math enuf to know the danger's of a second guessing.

As Cold as Steel

Its amazing what a difference "60 minutes" can make. Its nothing but getting back to the standards. The standards are so 'off', and we are not used to it, that when it hits all of a sudden - it hits real bad.

Looking out of the window I've been realizing this for 2 days in a row now. Its bright and sunny when you get outta work one day and pinch dark the next. Thanks to the 'time game' that's played twice a year.

Sun sets at 9 PM for about 7 months and 3 PM the rest. Crazy part of the world this is I tell ya!! Down under when Aussies would be going crazy, baking themselves in the Sun, shouting "Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, Oye Oye Oye" we're sitting here burning the oil to read, burning the oil to write, burning the oil to heat, to survive.

Cold air creeps in all of a sudden and the next thing you know - it starts snowing. Ankle deep one day, knee deep the other. With shovel in hand they come outta their house trying to dig the "oil burner" from the huge white pile. Soon, what was a 2 minute activity, becomes a half an hour - forty five min hell. Huffed and puffed get on the road to find this salt dispenser creating havoc on the streets. Sigh !!

But its good in one way. Wearing a jacket becomes a must. An extra layer of protection (and security) builds up and you can finally rest your hands in those huge pockets that most of em have. If you're not used to this or are a bit weird, you'd have tough times walking straight. Not 'cause of the snow, but 'cause of those heavy duty (more stress on heavy) snow boots that you got yourselves. A Winter present for ya ;-)

I don't know why, but I love winter. I can see a few nods (implying 'yeah me too') as you read this. Maybe 'cause of the fact that I right there in the so called 'cruel winter'. It has its own charm, its own beauty, its own freshness. Boy its amazing to walk out there in the snow. Especially when it has snowed the night before. I remember those days, walking through downtown Chicago, walking thru State Street or the Magnificent mile in winter, in snow, during Christmas, during New Year.

The Illumination, the setup, the Crowd, the Trees, the Color gradient ranging from White to Yellow to Red - all happens during the DARK AGE. Summers are fun, agreed, but for a different reason. If you start making a list, I bet you'd end up with a huge one for the former.

So Ladies and Gentlemen, it has all started. The aforementioned process, the Shedding of leaves, the Bare Branches, Branches with Light Bulbs replacing Green/Yellow/then Red Leaves, not having Sunlight for days, Laziness creeping up, Drinking hot Starbucks for a change, gaining more Pounds and spending some Dollars, watching Football, using Chapstick, buying Antifreeze, using HEET, listening to the tik-tik of the Heaters in your room - much like a V8 engine cooling down, Yelling "wadap joe" and wearing those Fleece Jackets with hoods ... and what not !!

Here it comes, here comes winter. Some things can change but not the winter in US.

Stay warm !!

Fall behind - Spring forward

What a weekend this is turning out to be. First of all, it starts raining all of a sudden (and I mean rain the whole day) ; whereas it should be snowing rite ? Then the whole saga of keeping an eye on our clocks and make sure that you 're benefitted the most. An extra hour of sleep .. aah !!

One thing's sure though -- until now, we've had late evenings - after work you could relax and it felt like time was ticking slow, see the light for like couple of hours even after reaching home. And now you won't. Now, it'll be dark when you leave the office, dark when you get home, dark, dark, dark. Dark until spring 2007.

But now, they are planning to change the rules starting March '07. The time changes would occur in March/November as against April/October. All this means is that from next year, we'll be in "standard time" for ~ 4 months. How on earth would it be standard if its just 4 out of 12 months ?? Beyond my understanding ;-)

I guess you also have heard about the great Mr. Murphy. And you know what happens right ? In the Fall, when we "gain" an extra hour - an extra hours worth of sleep, we never have anything to do on Sunday morning. In the Spring, when we lose the sleep, we always need to be someplace at 8AM ;). And then you got nothing to do but blame it on the time change !

Its gonna drive all those electronic equipments "nuts". I mean the change starting next year. They would still change time in April/Oct. And you gotta manually adjust it to get it right. Manufacturers would be having helluva problem too aint it ? The new models would have to reflect this change and although it wont be that difficult, its still a pain in the neck.

But whatever ... Do remember to change the batteries in ur smoke detectors !! ;-)

I just Googled it

Google have come up with a so called "correct usage" of the word Google; well the correct usage in our day-2-day life. The latest post on Google Blog highlights a few points and a few concerns. It says, especially, that you should not use Google in combination with any competitor's search engine.
We can understand why they want to protect their brand name, but does this make sense ? How many of you would do a search on (say) Yahoo or MSN but say that " I Googled it" ? I doubt the number would be high.
The post out there - they've provided some examples suggesting when to use it and when not to use it . We've probably come across some examples before, like the Sony's ... Walkman (its become so common that we refer to any piece as a Walkman).
Its going to be a topic of discussion in the coming days. Something in the line of what Mr. Steve Rubel has to say about all this ;).
Be careful guys ....

Festival of Lights

This is how NASDAQ is celebrating it this year. Yup At Times Square ... ;-)

Went to Walgreens today, saw a rack full of Diwali greeting cards lined up. Not one or two.. I'd say about 5-6 different ones. Deepavali has become so influential that it has entered the global jargon. The moments are not too far away, moments of excitement, fun. Go out and have a blast.
Boom !!

The great great Mr.Murphy

Have been running a bit late for the past few days. Am trying my best to keep up with the pace of my daily life. Sigh !! Never thought it would be this difficult. Sitting in front of my comp today I think about Murphy.... Murphy who ? Well, am talking about the one and only Mr. Murphy.
They say it originated in Edwards Air Force Base in 1948 where Major Edward A. Murphy, Jr., worked as a development engineer contributing support measurement technology. Now, how many of them make sense ?? I'd say all of em :)

These are some that I've heard at workplace and have experienced it too

And my favorite (rather my interpretation from daily life) ...

The moment you decide to get started early morning - it starts raining. Usually happens at 8:30AM and 5:30 in the evening. The day you decide to leave early, psychic Murphy spells doomsday. No point playing the waiting game either, you cannot match his extraordinary talent .
And its probably the day you forgot your Umbrella !!
