Stands for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder ; the mere thought of what these guys have gone through would send shivers down ur spine. All thanks to the time they spent in Iraq - yes am talking about the Marines. Saw a program on PBS the other day depicting their sufferings and the post-traumatic stress ... atleast the ONE show on TV that shows the reality - Frontline
Highlights
* Parents say they've lost their son - "he aint the same anymore". Sits on the couch and stares at the wall right in front of him. Starts sweating all of a sudden and cries out loud. When asked what happened - says dunno.
* One chap goes for a walk with his mom and stops suddenly; tells her -- rather sings the song "45" by Shinedown ...
And I'm staring down the barrel of a 45
Swimming through the ashes of another life
No real reason to accept the way things have changed
Staring down the barrel of a 45
(You know what a 45 is right ?)
Now, mom (as expected) is dumbstuck didn't know what to do .
*
Jeff Lucey a Marine .. returned from the war-front and stayed with his parents for coupla months before taking his life unable to bear the Trauma - Suicide !! His unit was asked to attend a CAMP so that they are not affected by what Jeff did to himself. 2 months down the lane they were sent back to Iraq agin . Sigh!!
Ever get a chance, watch
Gunner Palace (was screened on Discovery about a month back). It shows the complex realities of the situation - obviously not seen on the nightly news. Filmed by Michael Tucker who lived with the 2/3 Field Artillery, aka the
Gunners, it provides a rare look at the day-to-day lives of these soldiers on the ground - weather executing raids, enduring mortar attacks, RPGs and snipers.
Getting outta there is gonna be almost impossible for US and I wonder how many more would be returning home in a sane state of mind !!

Check out the docs "Occupation Dreamland" and "the Ground truth" Soon "the War Tapes". They make Gunnars look like kindergarten.
The PTSD issue is more intense than most realize. It will be a growing problem in America as vets start losing it at the shopping mall and drink and drive after self medicating.
lock up your children. There are crazy vets outside!

@ The Statistics - Yes PTSD is pretty worrisome and it always was. Saw the trailers @ "Occupation Dreamland" & "the Ground truth". Was flabbergasted to say the least. Sigh !!
@ Amrita - Haven't seen Munich yet but plan to watch it sometime later. The crude reality, although, could only be seen in documentaries or these footages.
